Annie Williams was born in London and grew up in Wales. She trained and worked as a nurse before studying at City & Guilds Art School.
Many of Annie's works have been reproduced as cards and posters in Europe, Japan and USA. She works as a printmaker and in watercolour.
Annie's current etchings are still life compositions, worked from her paintings or relevant drawings, but on a smaller scale and entirely created in aquatint using brushwork, rather than any use of etched or engraved line. They are usually printed in sepia ink, with a watercolour wash as highlight in a few areas.
'My compositions are of day-to-day objects, manipulating shapes, patterns and colour, built up in layers, trying to explore new ways of seeing what is in front of me. Backgrounds are often based on textiles, pages from magazines, and purpose-made images. The grouping of the objects is absolutely central to the success of my work, as is the influence of light and shadows'.
Annie's work has featured in many publications including Printmakers' Secrets Anthony Dyson 2009, The Watercolour Expert, RWS 2004, The Watercolour Painters Pocket Palette, Quattro 1991 and Light - How to see it How to paint it, Lucy Willis, Studio Vista 1988.
