Dean Patman lives and works in Hove in East Sussex. His work revolves around animals which he sculpts from found materials.
As a child Dean hunted creatures in the garden, his passion for natural history only equalled by his love of art; drawing and modelling. It was a natural progression for him to study scientific illustration however feeling the need for a more creatively challenging course he moved to Central St Martin's. It was here Dean first worked with recycled materials, a 'one off' project which lead to a way of working which Dean has explored and developed into a distinctive and quirky style.
Using materials which are strangely appropriate in their form or origin to the animal they sculpt Dean describes the physical appearance and the behaviour or character of the creature.
