Grace Squires was born in the Far East but has lived mostly in England - in the south, in the north, off-shore, and lately in the middle, in Lincolnshire.

She holds a degree from the University of London and has earned medals for her service in the Royal Air Force, yet her artistic practice has been shaped by independent exploration. She is a selected member of the Lincolnshire Artists' Society.
A life of extremes has given her a wealth of stories, which she translates into abstract paintings - creating space for viewers to imagine their own possibilities.
"My stories emerge through a dialogue of colour, shape, texture, and mark-making. I work primarily with acrylic paint for its versatility and resilience, allowing for the many iterations my process demands.
"In addition to paint, I incorporate dry media - pencils, chalk pastels, charcoal, and crayons - and create my own collage papers from monotype prints or hand-painted materials, often repurposed from books or letters. These collage elements may be visible or buried, serving as an underpainting or textural foundation.
"My paintings evolve through layers - built up, altered, integrated, and sometimes distressed back to reveal hidden depths, much like storytelling itself.
"The written stories accompanying my paintings come last, after I have discovered a title. Both the title and text offer a window into my own perception of the piece but are not meant to be prescriptive. Instead, they serve as an invitation for viewers to engage with their own narratives."
