Neil Canning is a contemporary British Artist. His work is included in many private and corporate collections throughout the world. In 2011 he won the main prize in the prestigious Discerning Eye Exhibition sponsored by ING, followed by a solo show at their London headquarters. He has exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
From his early beginnings in Oxfordshire to rural Wales and Cornwall, landscape has always been a major source of inspiration. He now lives and works in Cornwall. The coast and moors of this beautiful and dramatic peninsular have given his work a sense of space and drama. During this time he has been closely associated with the new generation of St Ives artists and in 1997 was included in the exhibition Art Now Cornwall at Tate St Ives.
For the last 20 years printmaking has been a very important part of Neil's output, working in the studio of Advanced Graphics who publish his limited edition screen prints. It was here that he met and worked alongside artists Albert Irvin, John Hoyland, Craigie Aitchison and Basil Beattie.
Neil's vibrant, energetic images may at first glance appear to be totally abstract. In fact, each piece is inspired by the effects of light and weather on the landscape or sea. The coastline close to his home is dramatic and constantly changing. He hopes to send the viewer back to nature, to see things in a new way or to relate an image to something they have personally experienced.
